Goan style Paneer is a simple and tasty variation from the regular Punjabi style paneer dishes. When I first got this recipe, it felt a little bit strange using the combination of coconut and paneer. Nevertheless, I happened to try it out and it turned to be very different and yum!

Let's start with my version of the recipe:

What's required:
For the Masala:
Red chillies - 3
Grated coconut - 1 tbsp
Dhaniya/Coriander seeds- 2 teaspoons
Tomato - 1 (big)
Garlic - 2-3 pieces
Ginger - 1/2 teaspoon (finely cut)
Other ingredients:
Paneer/Cottage cheese- 200gm - cut into cubes
Onions - 2
Bell pepper (green) - 1 (medium sized), cut into small pieces
Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon (or according to your spice meter)
Coriander powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Dry mango powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Lime juice - squeeze 1/2 lemon to extract juice
Salt to taste
Cooking Oil - 3 teaspoons

How to make:
- Heat a kadai/wok and add 1 teaspoon of oil.
- Add the red chillies, dhaniya and grated coconut.
- Allow the coconut to roast well, till a fried aroma arises. Allow the mixture to cool
- Add the roasted ingredients, garlic, ginger and tomatoes and grind to a smooth paste.
- In the same kadai, add the remaining oil, add jeera. Once jeera starts to splutter, add onions and fry well.
- Add bell pepper and allow to cook for a few minutes.
- Then add the ground paste, and allow to cook for few more minutes. Wait till the raw smell of tomatoes and garlic goes off.
- Add all the dry powders mentioned above, salt and mix well
- Add paneer and mix well. Wait for about 2 minutes and then add 2 cups of water
- Allow to cook for 5-7 minutes. You can adjust the quantity of water based on the desired consistency of the curry.
- Put off the flame and add lemon juice. Garnish with coriander.
- Serve hot with roti/nan/fried rice/jeera rice.
