"If you do not study properly now, you will end up in the kitchen cooking and serving others all your life" This is a usual dialogue that mothers tell their daughters even now, while they are in their teenage/college days. Or may be, "What will you do later if you can’t even make a onetime meal now?” My mom for some reason never said all that, though she said some of it, she instead used to the say the opposite; anyway, I will come to that later!
This, however, seems like a thing of the past. Cooking is now an art, a skill and a talent that's appreciated and acknowledged by one and all. Cooking is all about enjoying the flavor and aroma and appreciating the effort that goes into the making. In the world of today, men and women alike see cooking and kitchen as a place to unwind themselves. The thought process and creativity that goes into making food brings out a different us.
Kitchen usually considered to be the place for women is no more the case these days.. Men equally want to have a share of their cooking regime. When not given their space, men tend to get upset as well, just like what happens in my house!
Women looking for their life partners seek men who can cook. With equally busy schedules for both partners in the house, it's also a need of time that kitchen is occupied by both.
My hubby loves to experiment in the kitchen. He tries to always make me smile with whatever he cooks. I mostly smile coz whatever he makes is unusual, but tasty enough. I end up in the office most times pretty late and he takes all effort to put up a platter with whatever is available in the fridge. Now that he is away, I do realize how difficult it is to get yourself into the kitchen after returning from a long and tiring day at work.
More than this, I simply cannot imagine how my mom used to manage when she was working. I used to support her with the daily work, but she never asked me or forced me to cook or do anything in the kitchen. I never understood why.. Probably, she thought, as time comes I will learn my own way. She used to cook in the morning, coming back in the evening, and her job was not easy at all, tedious travelling and long hours at work. Needless to say, she had the least patience..
I was never a cooking person; I would love to do anything else other than this. But now, it’s not that, I like to enter the kitchen with an online recipe, look at different options to satisfy my tummy, and think of how differently something can be made. All these days, my hubby was the lab rat for all my experiments, but now I have to test everything on myself.
The only point of writing this article was, I was bored at home some day, watching a cookery show on TV and thought I can cook up an article on the same topic. However, when I started I had something else in my mind, which I am clueless right now. I ended up finishing this now, which is easily about a month from when I started with this article..
This page is definitely Thoughts and Scribbles...
